Coupa is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join its Core Product Engineering organization within the Integration and MAT team. In this role, the engineer will focus on scaling and delivering impactful backend features, system optimization, automation, and expanding integration capabilities across the ecosystem. Responsibilities
- Design, write, and deploy backend features and scalable application programming interfaces using Python and the Django Rest Framework

- Lead architectural decisions for the Django-based monolith to ensure backend systems scale with customer demand
- Utilize data, logging, and observability tools to resolve performance bottlenecks, address failure modes, and manage technical debt
- Conduct code reviews and contribute to workflows using generative artificial intelligence tools like Claude
- Draft requests for comments, share engineering best practices, and mentor team members
Requirements
- Production-level experience building and scaling backend systems with Python, Django, and the Django REST Framework
- Track record of designing stable application programming interfaces and working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL
- Practical experience with Kubernetes or the ability to learn it quickly
- Proactive, ownership-driven mindset with the capability to lead technical discussions and collaborate globally
