Job Description
This lead software engineer role is a full-stack position at Freshworks, a company whose stated goal is service software that is simple to use and free of needless complexity. The engineer creates the backend services and interactive frontend that customers and staff depend on, and carries core product modules from requirement gathering and system design through deployment, monitoring and support in production. The position is graded IC3.
The company says nearly 75,000 organizations rely on its platform and cites several large consumer brands among its customers, so the work leans heavily on scale and dependability. The engineer keeps systems available under heavy load, tolerant of faults across tenants, secure, and easy to observe, and tracks down slow paths from database queries through to page rendering. The role coordinates with product owners, interaction designers and reliability engineers, leads code reviews, and mentors junior and mid-level developers. Using AI tools to speed technical work is also part of the job.
The candidate should have five to eight years building and scaling software in fast-moving product teams, with a track record of delivering enterprise SaaS features that held up across several production cycles. A degree in computing, engineering or a related technical discipline is expected. Strong knowledge of REST APIs, microservices, caching, algorithmic complexity and system architecture is needed. The listing is on-site, and no salary range is stated.
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain backend microservices, database schemas and interactive frontend interfaces.
- Take ownership of core product modules end to end, including monitoring and production support.
- Write clean, testable code using object-oriented design and SOLID principles.
- Work with product, UX and reliability teams to turn product strategy into platform features.
- Make infrastructure highly available, fault tolerant, secure and observable.
- Find and fix performance bottlenecks across the stack.
- Lead code reviews and mentor junior and mid-level engineers.
Requirements
- Five to eight years' background building and growing software products.
- Solid backend skills (REST, microservices, caching) plus current frontend frameworks.
- Strong data structures and algorithms background, including time and space trade-offs.
- Experience designing scalable, highly available, multi-tenant systems.
- Experience with database schema design and with RDBMS, NoSQL and queueing systems.
- Exposure to integrating AI tools into technical work.
- Clear analytical thinking and the ability to explain design alternatives.
Qualifications
- A proven history of releasing enterprise software features that hold up across many production cycles.
- A self-starter comfortable with ambiguity who balances delivery speed with long-term code health.
