Freshworks is hiring a Lead Software Engineer - Systems for a full-time, on-site role. This position suits an experienced backend professional who wants to design cloud-native applications completely from the ground up, drive technical initiatives, and mentor a small group of systems engineers.
In this capacity, the engineer will take full charge of the delivery lifecycle for software features and infrastructure, ranging from gathering requirements to production support. Key duties include creating dependable distributed services, optimizing existing backend codebases for scale, and ensuring mission-critical systems maintain high availability alongside robust security and telemetry.
The role also emphasizes cross-functional cooperation with product managers, site reliability engineers, and fellow technical leads, as well as championing best practices in object-oriented programming and system design.

Responsibilities
- Build multi-tenant and cloud-native applications from inception through production iterations
- Maintain high availability, strict security, and deep observability for mission-critical systems
- Guide 2 to 4 systems engineers through mentorship and code reviews
- Apply AI tools and technologies to improve internal development workflows
- Own the complete lifecycle for features and infrastructure delivery
- Design modular APIs and distributed services for scalable cloud applications
- Lead engineering tasks centered on code refactoring, performance tuning, and scaling
- Establish monitoring, rate-limiting, and multi-region deployment configurations
- Partner with SREs, product managers, and other tech leads on platform capabilities
- Advocate for object-oriented programming best practices and SOLID principles
Requirements
- Demonstrate 6 to 9 years of professional background creating backend systems and infrastructure
- Possess expertise in computer science foundations including data structures, algorithms, and complexity trade-offs
- Show proven capability in high-level and low-level design for scalable and fault-tolerant systems
- Work with relational databases, NoSQL, caching, queuing systems, and microservices
- Have hands-on practice with CI/CD automation, DevOps tooling, and cloud platforms like AWS or GCP
- Exhibit a verifiable track record of constructing complex software from the ground up through multiple scale iterations
- Display experience directing technical scopes and conducting effective code reviews
