GuidePoint Security is seeking a remote Load Balancer / WAF Engineer for its Network Security & PKI Practice in the North Central region. Operating as a privately held information security reseller founded in 2011, GuidePoint assists major organizations and government agencies with risk reduction, threat identification, and tailored security integrations. In this position, the engineer will help manage and deploy cloud edge protection solutions, traffic routing architectures, and web application firewalls for enterprise and managed service clients.
This role fits professionals who possess background in cloud WAF platforms and application delivery controllers. Key responsibilities involve building custom traffic filtering rules, optimizing performance, handling incident response for DDoS events, and assisting with platform migrations. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and manage cloud security platforms such as WAF, DDoS mitigation, bot protection, and CDNs including Cloudflare and Akamai
- Construct and administer custom rules like page rules, rate limits, transform rules, and iRules to enforce security policies
- Collaborate with application, DevOps, and infrastructure units to guarantee secure and resilient traffic flow for internet-facing assets
- Fine-tune configurations for availability, performance, and latency including global traffic routing, load balancing, and failover
- Assist with incident response operations related to DDoS events or WAF bypass incidents
- Create configuration documentation and operational runbooks for client handoffs or internal support teams
- Perform edge security and WAF assessments to discover misconfigurations or areas for improvement
- Help integrate or migrate from on-premises hardware such as F5, translating custom logic into cloud WAF equivalents
Requirements
- Two to four years of professional experience managing enterprise cloud WAF and DDoS platforms
- Deep familiarity with Akamai and/or Cloudflare edge protection services
- Experience developing custom page rules, traffic filtering logic, and rate limiting policies
- Robust understanding of fundamental networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, routing, NAT, and load balancing
- Practical experience utilizing on-premises application delivery controllers such as F5 BIG-IP, including WAF modules, SSL offloading, and iRules
- Solid troubleshooting capabilities across application-layer traffic and network-layer defenses
- Legal authorization to work for any employer in the United States without sponsorship
Qualifications
- Acquaintance with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure and edge integration patterns
- Experience automating DNS, WAF, and DDoS configurations through Terraform or APIs
- Certifications related to F5, Cloudflare, Akamai, or general network security such as F5 CTS or Cloudflare Zero Trust
- Background in API security protections, bot mitigation strategies, and client fingerprinting
- Prior work history in consulting, client-facing positions, or managed service provider environments
