Turnitin is seeking a motivated Software Engineering Manager to lead and maintain products within its Integrity portfolio. Operating globally with team members across more than 35 countries, the organization builds learning integrity solutions utilized by academic institutions, publishers, and corporations worldwide. Prominent offerings include Turnitin Feedback Studio, Originality, Gradescope, and iThenticate. This leadership position requires a balance of technical execution, project management, and people management abilities.
The person in this role will guide globally distributed engineering teams, collaborate cross-functionally with product managers and solution architects, and support individual contributors through coaching and career development. Ideal candidates are empathetic, adaptable leaders who excel at context switching and prioritization across multiple concurrent projects. Responsibilities
- Manage and empower a highly efficient, globally distributed engineering team aligned with company goals
- Partner with cross-functional groups including product management, UX, security, DevOps, and customer success
- Define and implement engineering best practices for architecture, delivery, and team operations
- Oversee technical roadmaps, delivery milestones, and product development lifecycles alongside tech leads
- Conduct regular one-on-ones, mentor individual contributors, and promote psychological safety
- Analyze development metrics and quality data to optimize team performance and processes
Requirements
- Experience in engineering leadership roles across multiple teams, including hiring, mentoring, and team development
- Strong hands-on engineering background with a solid grasp of modern software development practices
- Experience building scalable front-end and back-end applications using JavaScript frameworks and Java in an AWS serverless environment
- Proven project management experience handling multiple initiatives and time zones
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities for working with distributed global teams
Qualifications
- Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience
- Demonstrated track record of coaching and mentoring peers and individual contributors
