Veracyte seeks a full-time Manager Software Test Automation to lead its Quality Engineering Platform team in a hybrid capacity located in San Diego, California. The organization operates globally as a diagnostics company focused on improving cancer care by supplying clinicians with valuable clinical and genomic insights. In this position, the professional will head a team consisting of Quality Platform Engineers, Automation Engineers, and Software Development Engineers in Test. Rather than acting as a conventional quality assurance unit, this group collaborates with Product Management, CloudOps, Software Engineering, Laboratory Operations, DevOps, and Data and AI to embed quality throughout the entire product lifecycle.
The person in this role will formulate quality engineering strategies, foster developer productivity, and introduce automated frameworks and intelligent testing platforms. Responsibilities include building scalable test infrastructure for APIs, cloud-native applications, and laboratory workflows, alongside implementing AI-driven tools for defect classification and test generation. Candidates should possess a strong background in software development and test automation, paired with experience leading engineering teams. Responsibilities
- Manage, mentor, and expand the Quality Engineering Platform team
- Formulate and execute the long-term strategy for automation, quality engineering, and developer enablement
- Build self-service quality platforms that allow product teams to validate software independently
- Design scalable automation frameworks covering unit, API, integration, UI, regression, performance, security, and compliance testing
- Establish standards, reference architectures, and tooling templates to unify quality methods across development squads
- Incorporate automated quality gates, release health checks, and production validation into workflows
- Devise artificial intelligence strategies for automated test creation, test maintenance, regression analysis, and synthetic data generation
- Collaborate with Data and AI divisions to build validation methods for LLMs, model monitoring, and prompt regression testing
- Coach development teams on testing best practices, automation strategies, and quality ownership
- Track engineering metrics related to automation effectiveness, software quality, developer productivity, and release confidence
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
- Six to seven years of software development, quality engineering, or general software engineering experience
- At least three years leading Test Engineering, Quality Engineering, Developer Platform, or SDET teams
- Demonstrated history of constructing engineering platforms to boost software quality and developer efficiency
- Background in writing automated testing frameworks for distributed systems and cloud-native applications
- Familiarity with embedding automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows
- Experience creating internal developer platforms or self-service engineering capabilities
- Familiarity with AWS cloud services, APIs, and modern software architectures
Qualifications
- Background in molecular diagnostics, healthcare, laboratory information systems, or regulated medical software
- Experience validating healthcare data exchange protocols such as FHIR, HL7, and X12
- Testing background involving generative AI applications, machine learning systems, or AI-enabled products
- Familiarity with automation tooling like Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, REST Assured, Karate, Postman, JUnit, or TestNG
- Programming capabilities in Python, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, or C#
- Experience handling Docker, Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code, and cloud-native environments
- Background implementing site reliability engineering, security testing, chaos engineering, or performance engineering practices
- Familiarity with compliance standards including HIPAA, FDA, CAP/CLIA, ISO 13485, or SOC 2
- Possession of AWS certifications or software testing credentials
