Job Description
This associate or contractor position involves conducting Military Airworthiness Reviews of Typhoon Air Systems for the RAF MAR contract. Work is organised on an assignment basis and centred at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire, with hybrid arrangements and occasional postings overseas. The surveyor joins the Baines Simmons team, a training and consulting brand within the TrustFlight group that advises civil and military aviation bodies.
Surveyors choose their own review samples, log and grade findings, and base reports on evidence without taking direction from the customer or the company. Tasks include checking aircraft paperwork and maintenance records, carrying out hands-on aircraft inspections, and agreeing corrective actions and deadlines with the MilCAM and CAMO. After authorisation, the surveyor also reviews colleagues' reports through Technical Compliance checks.
Reports must be delivered inside the contract timelines. Some reviews take place at deployed or overseas sites under CONDO rules, and some are late shifts running from 15:00 until 22:00 to cover out-of-hours obligations. The employer notes that approved software tools may help cut paperwork, but MOD-owned and contract information can be used only in tools cleared for that purpose.
Suitable candidates have at least a decade in military continuing airworthiness and five years of supervisory air system maintenance, plus the ability to write clear reports and defend findings under challenge. SC clearance must be held or obtainable and kept throughout the engagement, along with a current passport and readiness to travel.

- Schedule, perform and document airworthiness reviews of Typhoon Air Systems for the RAF MAR contract
- Examine aircraft records, maintenance logs and continuing airworthiness data against a justified sample
- Carry out hands-on inspections of aircraft suited to the platform
- Log, grade and follow findings until they are closed
- Issue accurate reports within the timeframes set in the contract
- Perform Technical Compliance checks on colleagues' reports once authorised
- Conduct reviews at deployed and overseas sites when needed
- Keep authorisations, platform currency and refresher training up to date
- Pass on lessons learned and coach less experienced surveyors
Requirements
- Ten or more years in military continuing airworthiness
- Five or more years in supervisory air system maintenance
- Service background at SNCO rank or above with competence matching an authority to defer corrective maintenance under MOD Form 700C, or equivalent military airworthiness experience for applicants without a service background
- Recent work inside a military CAMO
- Working knowledge of Military Aviation Authority Regulatory Articles, especially RA 4970 to RA 4974, and a firm grasp of the Order 1.14 rules within AP100B-01 and its annexes
- Concise, evidence-based report writing for customers and the ability to defend findings
- Solid Excel skills, plus working confidence with Microsoft 365 and Adobe Acrobat fillable forms
- SC clearance, or the ability to obtain it, a current passport and readiness to travel and deploy
Qualifications
- Earlier experience delivering Military Airworthiness Reviews for the Typhoon platform
- Completion of a Typhoon Manager course, or a mechanical or avionics trade course related to Typhoon
- Auditing or quality assurance experience in a regulated aviation setting
- Experience working at deployed or overseas sites under CONDO arrangements
