Job Description
MetroSys is currently hiring an OT/SCADA Solutions Architect for a remote, full-time position. This senior, hands-on role will spearhead the technical architecture and deployment strategy for a broad rollout of the Inductive Automation Ignition SCADA platform spanning multiple industrial facilities. The successful candidate will translate plant-level and operational business requirements into a repeatable and scalable SCADA framework.
In this capacity, the architect will collaborate closely with plant personnel, client operational technology leadership, controls engineers, and cybersecurity teams to set standards and guarantee successful multi-site execution. Responsibilities include defining reference architectures, gold images, deployment templates, and security models. This position suits an experienced professional with a deep background in operational technology and industrial automation who can lead technical discovery and troubleshoot complex system integration challenges.
Responsibilities
- Manage and evolve the Ignition SCADA reference architecture for multi-site and potential global deployments
- Define architecture standards covering gateways, redundancy, historians, databases, alarms, visualization, and security
- Create and maintain standardized deployment templates, configuration standards, and reference designs
- Lead technical discovery sessions to evaluate plant environments, including PLCs, networks, and existing SCADA platforms
- Design system integrations between Ignition and PLCs, OPC UA servers, MQTT setups, databases, MES, and ERP systems
- Establish standards for tag structures, naming conventions, visualization, and historian configurations
- Architect resilient, highly available SCADA environments with gateway redundancy, backup, failover, and scalability
- Collaborate with networking and security teams to set requirements for firewalls, secure communication, and remote access
- Provide guidance on industrial communication protocols such as OPC UA, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, and MQTT/Sparkplug
- Act as the senior escalation contact for complex integration, controls, and networking issues
- Lead design reviews and provide technical oversight for deployment engineers and site teams
- Set standards for testing, validation, commissioning, and production readiness
- Review plant-specific deviations and decide whether to incorporate them into enterprise standards
- Identify opportunities to automate deployments across multiple industrial sites
- Produce and maintain architecture diagrams, deployment procedures, and documentation
- Mentor engineers and controls professionals implementing the architecture
- Partner with client leadership to shape a long-term technology roadmap for SCADA and OT expansion
Requirements
- Minimum 8 years of experience in SCADA, industrial automation, controls engineering, or OT infrastructure
- At least 3 years working in a senior engineering, technical lead, or architecture capacity for industrial systems
- Demonstrated experience designing or leading enterprise and multi-site SCADA or HMI architectures
- Solid knowledge of PLC integration, industrial controls, field devices, historians, and databases
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols including OPC UA, EtherNet/IP, Modbus, and MQTT
- Experience designing SCADA connectivity across segmented industrial networks
- Understanding of industrial networking principles such as switching, routing, VLANs, firewalls, and DMZs
- Experience building high-availability, redundant, scalable, and recoverable industrial environments
- Knowledge of OT cybersecurity principles and industrial security architecture
- Ability to translate specific plant requirements into standardized enterprise architecture
- Experience leading technical design sessions across diverse operational, IT, and business teams
- Strong technical leadership, communication, troubleshooting, and documentation skills
Qualifications
- Extensive hands-on experience with Inductive Automation Ignition
- Ignition Gold Certification or equivalent advanced Ignition experience
- Familiarity with Ignition Perspective, Vision, Tag Historian, Alarm Notification, SQL Bridge, or Enterprise Administration Module
- Experience architecting multi-gateway or enterprise-scale Ignition systems
- Familiarity with MQTT/Sparkplug architectures and industrial edge computing
- Experience with alternative SCADA platforms such as Rockwell FactoryTalk, AVEVA/Wonderware, Siemens WinCC, or GE CIMPLICITY/iFIX
- Experience with PLC control platforms from Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, or Schneider Electric
- Background in integrating SCADA environments with MES, ERP, cloud, or enterprise data analytics platforms
- Knowledge of OT cybersecurity frameworks like ISA/IEC 62443, Purdue Model architecture, or NIST guidance
- Experience establishing standards for multi-plant or global manufacturing organizations
