Job Description
MetroSys is hiring a remote, full-time OT/SCADA Solutions Architect to spearhead the technical design and deployment strategy for a broad rollout of the Inductive Automation Ignition SCADA platform across diverse industrial sites. This senior, hands-on role involves bridging operational technology requirements with scalable architecture standards, working closely with client OT leadership, controls engineers, and cybersecurity teams.
The person in this position will establish baseline reference architectures, gold images, and integration templates while guiding complex plant deployments. Ideal candidates bring extensive background in industrial automation and enterprise SCADA design, with strong proficiency in PLC integration, industrial communication protocols, and high-availability networking.
Responsibilities
- Manage and evolve the Ignition SCADA reference architecture for multi-site and global rollouts
- Define standards for gateways, system redundancy, alarms, historians, databases, and visualization
- Develop standardized gold images, deployment templates, and reference designs
- Assess plant environments including PLCs, control systems, networks, and existing SCADA platforms
- Design integrations connecting Ignition to controllers, OPC UA servers, MQTT, and MES or ERP systems
- Build highly available and scalable SCADA environments with robust backup and failover capabilities
- Partner with cybersecurity teams to establish secure communications, network segmentation, and access controls
- Guide teams on industrial protocols such as OPC UA, Modbus TCP, EtherNet/IP, and MQTT/Sparkplug
- Act as the senior escalation point for complex integration, controls, and networking problems
- Lead design reviews and oversee deployment engineers and site implementation teams
- Create validation, testing, and production-readiness standards for all site deployments
- Create and maintain architecture diagrams, deployment procedures, and as-built documentation
- Mentor controls resources and collaborate with leadership on long-term OT technology roadmaps
Requirements
- At least 8 years of professional background in SCADA, industrial automation, controls engineering, or OT infrastructure
- Minimum 3 years working in a senior engineering, architecture, or technical lead capacity for industrial systems
- Proven experience designing or leading multi-site or enterprise SCADA and HMI architectures
- Familiarity with PLC integration, industrial controls, plant-floor equipment, and historians
- Working knowledge of OPC UA, EtherNet/IP, Modbus, MQTT, and industrial communication protocols
- Practical experience designing SCADA connectivity across segmented industrial networks
- Strong understanding of industrial networking concepts including firewalls, VLANs, switching, and routing
- Familiarity with high-availability, scalable, and recoverable industrial system design
- Knowledge of OT cybersecurity principles and industrial security architecture
- Capability to convert plant-specific needs into standardized enterprise architecture
- Experience leading technical design sessions across business, OT, IT, and cybersecurity teams
Qualifications
- Extensive hands-on practice with Inductive Automation Ignition
- Ignition Gold Certification or comparable advanced Ignition expertise
- Familiarity with Ignition Perspective, Vision, Tag Historian, SQL Bridge, and Enterprise Administration Module
- Experience architecting enterprise-scale or multi-gateway Ignition environments
- Background with MQTT/Sparkplug architectures and industrial edge computing
- Familiarity with platforms such as Rockwell FactoryTalk, AVEVA/Wonderware, Siemens WinCC, or GE CIMPLICITY/iFIX
- Proficiency with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider Electric, or similar control platforms
- Experience tying SCADA environments into cloud, MES, ERP, or enterprise data platforms
- Understanding of NIST guidance, Purdue Model architecture, or ISA/IEC 62443 cybersecurity standards
- History of establishing standards for global or multi-plant manufacturing operations
