Protect Democracy seeks multiple Paralegal & Litigation Specialists to join its remote team. In this position, professionals will contribute to impact litigation and advocacy initiatives aimed at stopping authoritarianism, protecting civil liberties, and securing democratic institutions. Key focus areas include pushing back against unlawful executive actions, shielding journalists and advocates from government censorship, and addressing illegal voter purges.

This role suits experienced legal professionals with a background in civil litigation who possess a collaborative mindset and strong attention to detail. Practitioners will manage case files, draft legal documents, participate in discovery, and assist with public communications. Team members are expected to be adaptable, eager to learn, and dedicated to safeguarding democratic norms.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and organize case files, documents, and information management systems
  • Prepare, finalize, and coordinate court filings, legal memos, and pleadings
  • Assist in leading the discovery process and conduct legal research
  • Draft memoranda, reports, public-facing documents, and correspondence
  • Perform cite-checking, Bluebooking, fact-checking, and proofreading
  • Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, and external partners
  • Produce external media materials such as press releases, op-eds, and social media posts
  • Coordinate meeting logistics, agendas, and internal communications
  • Project manage litigation assignments by creating work plans and tracking progress
  • Collaborate with colleagues during impact brainstorming sessions

Requirements

  • At least three years of filing experience in civil litigation
  • Familiarity with preparing court pleadings, cite-checking, Bluebooking, and drafting discovery materials
  • Knowledge of federal rules of civil procedure and state or local court rules
  • Experience with case management and litigation administration
  • Strong writing, research, editing, and proofreading abilities
  • Demonstrated project management experience in a legal context
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and feedback-sharing skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities
  • Commitment to preserving democratic norms and institutions

Qualifications

  • Paralegal certification
  • Experience utilizing Filevine
  • Experience using e-Discovery platforms such as Everlaw or Relativity
