Job Description
GitLab is hiring a People Systems Engineer for its India location. The Senior Director, People Technology is the manager, and the engineer works alongside the Lead People Systems Engineer to build and maintain automations and connectors that tie together Workday, Greenhouse, Slack and other platforms used by a worldwide workforce. The listing describes the position as on-site.
Responsibilities center on owning features from concept to live release, including deployment and ongoing reliability, using Workato, Google Cloud and Claude. The engineer builds connections linking Workday, Greenhouse, Slack and home-grown systems through WWS calls, Slack's developer APIs and Bot SDK, creates Slack apps and bots that remove manual steps, and writes Ruby or similar scripts kept in GitLab with documentation and peer review. The engineer watches connector health, investigates failures, fixes root causes, and deploys changes through GitLab CI/CD while following testing, change-management and SOX IT general controls standards.
The role is AI-forward: the engineer applies large language models and Model Context Protocol tooling, including Claude, to speed up builds, prototype agents and teach others. The engineer works alongside People Technology Analysts on setup and launches, and with security, IT and AI Engineering teams on controls and conventions.
