Job Description

Zopa is hiring a Platform Engineer for its Cloud Infrastructure team, listed in Manchester. The team belongs to the Platform tribe and works alongside database and developer experience colleagues. Its users are the engineers who build Zopa's products, and the team's mission is to help them ship safely and without depending on others. The group is completing a large migration and pulling platform capabilities together, adding self-service tools and clear engineering guardrails.

The engineer delivers cloud infrastructure and migration work, improves infrastructure-as-code, container platforms and cloud automation, and talks with application engineers to learn what they need. The role includes hardening platform services for security, reliability, observability and maintainability, contributing to shared standards and documentation, and reviewing code. Support for business-critical services through a shared on-call rota is part of the job. The post is hybrid, and the posting's working-pattern note refers to two to three days a week in the London office.

The ideal engineer brings practical cloud experience, work with containers such as Kubernetes or ECS, and infrastructure-as-code skills, ideally in Terraform. Ownership, a quality focus and experience supporting production systems are also valued.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of cloud infrastructure and migration deliverables.
  • Build and enhance infrastructure-as-code, container setups and cloud automation.
  • Work with engineers to learn their needs and improve their day-to-day tooling experience.
  • Make platform services secure, dependable, observable and easy to maintain.
  • Learn and apply the company's AWS, Kubernetes and CI/CD conventions.
  • Add to shared standards, documentation, code reviews and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Cover business-critical services on the shared on-call rota.

Requirements

  • Real-world cloud experience on AWS, Google Cloud, Azure or another major platform.
  • Experience with containers, such as Kubernetes or ECS.
  • Infrastructure-as-code experience, ideally Terraform or a similar tool.
  • Contributions to CI/CD and dependable software delivery.
  • Able to take ownership of a project with support and push through ambiguity.
  • Collaborative, with a focus on helping application engineers succeed.
  • Quality mindset across reliability, maintainability, security and operational readiness.
  • Experience on an on-call rota or supporting production systems.

Qualifications

  • AWS, plus Kubernetes or EKS, Terraform, Helm and GitHub Actions.
  • Service discovery, secrets management, networking, monitoring or scripting experience.
  • Observability tools such as Honeycomb, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus or Splunk.
  • Sensible use of AI-assisted engineering tools.
