Job Description

Wing, a subsidiary of Alphabet focusing on sustainable last-mile drone logistics, seeks a Policy Communications Lead. The organization designs and operates automated delivery aircraft that transport small items directly from commercial entities to residential areas within minutes. Operating across multiple continents, the business integrates its technology into current delivery networks.

This position is structured as a senior individual-contributor role operating on a hybrid schedule in Palo Alto, California, or from remote locations within the United States. The professional will formulate and execute messaging for federal regulators, local authorities, community organizations, and journalists. As public interest regarding safety, noise, and oversight grows, the appointee will coordinate closely with legal, government affairs, operations, and marketing teams to build verifiable community-facing evidence bases and handle rapid-response situations.

The role requires an individual capable of advising leadership during high-stakes hearings and managing agency relationships. Ideal candidates possess extensive experience in public affairs or issues management, coupled with the ability to articulate technical subjects accurately without oversimplifying them.

Responsibilities

  • Design and direct the policy and regulatory communications strategy targeting federal, state, and local audiences.
  • Counsel executives and senior leadership regarding how public positioning impacts litigation, legislation, and permitting.
  • Collaborate with Legal and Government Affairs to synchronize messaging across rulemakings and proceedings.
  • Partner with Operations to establish and maintain an accurate evidence base regarding noise, flight volumes, and privacy practices.
  • Prepare spokespeople and executives for high-stakes media interviews, council meetings, and legislative hearings.
  • Drive rapid-response and issues management communications when markets face public scrutiny.
  • Create outreach toolkits for market teams ahead of product launches and permit applications.
  • Assess media, policy, and community sentiment to deliver clear risk recommendations to leadership.
  • Supervise agency and consultant partnerships focused on issues and policy communications.
  • Establish relationships with credible third-party voices, including outside experts, host communities, and partners.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 12 years of professional background in issues management, public affairs, or policy communications.
  • Track record of directing communications strategy for high-scrutiny, legislative, or regulatory issues rather than solely executing tactics.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functional teams and advise senior leaders without formal authority.
  • Experience engaging reporters regarding contested or policy-driven stories.
  • Capacity to credibly explain technical subject matter without oversimplifying.
  • Strong judgment under pressure to make decisions with incomplete information and escalate appropriately.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in a related academic field or equivalent practical experience.
