Job Description
BambooHR operates as a market leader creating a people intelligence platform designed to transform human resources operations. The organization seeks a Principal Architect, AI-Native Developer Experience to lead the architecture for how engineers and coding agents build software together. This hands-on remote position requires designing the tools, context mechanisms, and validation pipelines that support collaborative software development.
The person in this role will establish agentic engineering practices, automate software development lifecycle workflows, build engineering knowledge layers, and redesign CI/CD pipelines for agent-authored changes. Responsibilities also include modernizing developer environments, governing permissions and costs, writing production code, and mentoring engineers. This position suits technical leaders with extensive software architecture experience and a strong background in AI-driven development tools.
Responsibilities
- Define the technical vision, reference architecture, and incremental roadmap for AI-native development
- Test emerging models, agents, and developer tools through time-boxed experiments and proofs of concept
- Establish agentic engineering practices including spec-driven development and context engineering
- Architect agentic workflows for triage, implementation, review, testing, and remediation
- Create engineering and product knowledge layers to supply accurate context for agents and engineers
- Redesign CI/CD pipelines with intelligent test selection, merge queues, and automated security gates
- Partner with security and quality teams on agent permissions, sandboxing, and audit trails
- Write production code, reference implementations, and mentor engineers on agentic skills
Requirements
- At least 10 years of software engineering experience
- At least 7 years in software architecture or staff-plus technical leadership
- Daily, hands-on use of AI coding agents with a track record of driving adoption
- Experience building production LLM systems including tool calling, agent orchestration, context engineering, RAG, and evals
- Deep background designing CI/CD, build systems, and developer platforms at scale
- Strong SaaS architecture fundamentals and fluency in PHP, React, and MySQL
- Working knowledge of the OWASP Top 10 and supply chain security
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience
- Experience building agent tooling, MCP servers, or open-source developer tools
- Experience leading AI adoption or productivity change across a large engineering organization
- Experience building systems handling sensitive data in regulated SaaS environments like HR, payroll, or SOC 2
