Job Description

Onebrief is seeking a Principal Contracts Strategist (Pre-Award) to join its contracting team on a remote, full-time basis. Established in 2019, the organization builds AI-powered workflow and collaboration software designed for military planning and operational coordination. Valued at over $2 billion and backed by prominent investors, the company continues to expand its technology and team.

This foundational, senior individual contributor position reports to the Head of Contracts and carries significant visibility and influence without direct personnel management responsibilities. The successful candidate will own complex pre-award contract strategy, execution, and risk mitigation while designing scalable workflows and frameworks that support sales and company growth. Daily responsibilities involve collaborating closely with internal departments such as legal, finance, sales, partnerships, and customer relations to resolve bottlenecks and align acquisition approaches with business objectives.

This role suits an experienced contracts professional who excels at independent execution and organizational scaling within a fast-paced environment. Candidates must possess deep expertise in federal government contracting and technology-enabled product support, along with the willingness to travel as needed and the ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Head of Contracts to formulate contract strategy, sequence priorities, and facilitate transparent contract awards.
  • Handle complex contract analysis, risk mitigation, lifecycle management, and negotiations to align acquisition strategies with company goals and mission outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain dependable pre-award workflows, playbooks, contracting frameworks, and decision models.
  • Enhance operational efficiency and processes through automation.
  • Coordinate across finance, legal, sales, partnerships, contract administration, and customer relations to resolve blockers, identify dependencies, and align priorities.

Requirements

  • Extensive expertise in federal government acquisition processes, regulations, and software or technology-enabled contracting models.
  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in contract strategy and administration.
  • Demonstrated history of designing and executing flexible acquisition methods such as OTAs and hybrid vehicles while managing risk.
  • Background in scaling contracting functions within a high-growth setting.
  • Proficiency in operating independently within distributed or asynchronous settings while leading through influence and building cross-functional trust.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 8 years of prior experience working as a federal government contracting officer.
  • Experience in scaling contract execution and strategy internationally.
