The individual selected will drive platform-wide architectural changes, remove critical performance bottlenecks, and establish metrics for high-demand enterprise workloads. Responsibilities span system profiling, design, implementation, and production rollout, alongside collaborating with different teams to make performance optimization part of daily engineering routines. The base salary range for this position spans from $244,000 to $366,000 USD per year, determined by factors such as location, relevant background, and skills. The role may entail up to 10% travel for activities like team gatherings, onboarding, and industry events.
Responsibilities
- Define scale readiness parameters and establish a shared scorecard covering latency, throughput, error rates, and capacity.
- Isolate and resolve critical production constraints using benchmarking and profiling data.
- Implement architectural modifications including sharding, partitioning, caching, workload isolation, and back-pressure strategies.
- Build lightweight benchmarking and profiling harnesses to help engineering teams test environments independently.
- Lead scalability reviews and implement release gates to detect potential risks early in the delivery cycle.
- Investigate systemic causes of incidents and collaborate with service owners to validate lasting corrections.
- Apply AI-driven tools for anomaly detection, synthetic traffic generation, workload modeling, and guided runbooks.
- Communicate technical priorities and architectural tradeoffs clearly to executive and engineering stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bring over 12 years of professional engineering experience with a documented history of scaling multi-tenant SaaS systems.
- Possess advanced expertise in distributed systems, performance engineering, capacity planning, and tenant isolation.
- Demonstrate hands-on capability in investigating unfamiliar systems, writing production code, and executing safe rollouts.
- Show practical AI familiarity regarding the implementation and critical evaluation of automation tools.
