Within the Internal Products division, the Integration Services team delivers essential connectivity, automation, and software quality capabilities across the enterprise. The organisation is currently seeking a Principal Engineer for Integration Services to spearhead the creation and leadership of a brand-new shared capability.
This position is ideal for an accomplished technical leader with a robust background in platform capabilities, enterprise integration, and shared engineering services. The incumbent will set the strategic direction for integration architecture, balance central reuse with domain autonomy, and guide major ongoing transformation efforts such as the Commercial Technology Programme. Beyond strategy, this individual will provide hands-on technical guidance, build a high-performing engineering team, and establish robust operational frameworks.
The role operates on a hybrid remote structure within the product and technology group. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with architects and engineering managers across the enterprise, influencing technical standards without relying strictly on formal authority to ensure shared platforms offer genuine value.
Responsibilities
- Define the technical direction and integration strategy across Internal Products
- Establish principles, standards, and reusable patterns for enterprise integration
- Identify opportunities to simplify integration architecture, reduce duplication, and improve interoperability
- Lead shared services and platform engineering by building reusable capabilities with sustainable operational models
- Establish and evolve quality engineering capabilities, automated testing, and CI/CD practices
- Provide senior engineering leadership for the Commercial Technology Programme and other major transformation initiatives
- Lead, recruit, and develop engineers within the Integration Services team
- Establish product roadmaps, manage delivery capacity, and prioritize technical investments
- Own the operational performance, monitoring, observability, and incident management of shared integration services
- Collaborate across domains with principal engineers, architects, and engineering managers
- Manage relationships and provide technical leadership regarding integration vendors and implementation partners
Requirements
- Significant experience in a Principal Engineer, senior engineering leadership, or comparable technical leadership role
- Strong experience designing, building, and operating enterprise integration capabilities at scale
- Deep understanding of integration architecture, APIs, event-driven systems, messaging, data flows, and distributed systems
- Experience establishing reusable engineering services or shared platform capabilities
