Virtasant is seeking a Principal Ontology Architect to join a senior team for a large enterprise program focused on healthcare operations. Virtasant operates as a global technology services firm with a vast network of technology professionals serving clients ranging from startups to Fortune 500 enterprises. This contractor role involves designing and implementing knowledge-graph frameworks that enable executives to make operational decisions, execute actions, and track outcomes. The successful candidate will collaborate directly with senior client stakeholders, lead semantic design, and share previous delivery experience. The engagement begins immediately on a part-time basis for the initial weeks before transitioning to full time on a multi-year project.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate directly with senior client stakeholders to share previous design and delivery experience
- Lead ontology and semantic design for healthcare operations
- Conduct workshops with domain experts to establish business-first models derived from executive questions and metrics
- Perform hands-on graph modeling utilizing property-graph or RDF databases
- Present solutions to C-level stakeholders and navigate live challenges
Requirements
- Designed and shipped production ontologies that drove real business decisions rather than only metadata catalogs or taxonomies
- Demonstrated experience in healthcare operations such as scheduling, workforce, or clinical operations
- Must be based in the United States with valid US work authorization
- Available for immediate start and occasional US travel
- Strong senior presence with experience presenting to C-level stakeholders
Qualifications
- Experience with Palantir Foundry Ontology including objects, links, and actions
- Familiarity with ontology governance covering versioning, change control, stable identifiers, and shared cores
- Background in decision-intelligence modeling such as KPI trees, root-cause analysis, and closed-loop measurement
- Experience grounding AI assistants or agents in an ontology or knowledge graph
- Knowledge of rules engines paired with an ontology and modern cloud data platforms
