Job Description
Elastic is hiring a Principal Product Manager II for its AI and vector capabilities. The job is full-time and based in London on an on-site basis. It covers strategy for embedding and reranking models, the vector database, and related search functions.
The person in this role becomes the go-to specialist for search and vector retrieval, shaping direction on topics such as vector indexing and hybrid retrieval. The work depends on close collaboration with engineering and applied research teams, so that Elastic's offerings keep fitting the needs of many organizations as AI methods evolve.
Ownership extends over the long-range vision and multi-quarter roadmap for the vector database and core search use cases, from indexing internals up to the APIs and SDKs developers use. The product manager engages engineers and researchers as an informed peer on trade-offs, and sets and defends the metrics that count, such as recall and latency, plus index size, ingest throughput and the overall cost of ownership.
Other duties include market research into emerging search and vector database trends, tracking state-of-the-art model research for unstructured data, reviewing the competitive field, and building user personas that guide feature choices. Long-term goals are set for vector use cases and document AI.
Strategy has to link embedding and reranking models with indexing, semantic ingestion, lifecycle management and retrieval quality across Serverless and self-managed deployments. The role keeps research, cloud and engineering teams working from shared metrics and runs the operating rhythm.
Candidates need an undergraduate qualification in computing, engineering or a closely related field, plus at least eight years in product management with substantial time spent on infrastructure, database, search or ML/AI platform work. The posted typical starting base range is USD 199,700 to 315,900, and a higher range of USD 239,800 to 379,300 applies in certain US locations. Stock program eligibility is listed.

- Set one strategy across embedding and reranking models, vector indexing, semantic ingestion and model lifecycle
- Set and stand behind the measures that count for retrieval quality and cost
- Research emerging search and vector database trends alongside the model team
- Review the competitive field and create user personas that inform feature decisions
- Coordinate with engineering to validate roadmap assumptions and allocate resources
- Keep research, cloud and engineering teams on shared priorities and cadence
Requirements
