Oportun is seeking a Principal Product Manager to direct the strategy, roadmap, and delivery for its flagship artificial intelligence-driven Savings product. As a mission-driven financial services organization, Oportun aims to make financial goals achievable for its members through intelligent borrowing, budgeting, and savings solutions. In this full-time remote role, the incoming professional will shape the evolution of the financial health platform by designing, launching, and scaling new capabilities while collaborating closely with engineering, design, data, marketing, legal, and customer support teams.
The position is well-suited for a curious, creative, and customer-focused product leader who thrives on solving ambiguous problems and turning user research and data into actionable product strategies. The person in this role will report to the Vice President and General Manager for Savings and Mobile, with a strong preference for candidates living in the Central or Eastern time zones to facilitate collaboration. The ideal individual combines strong product judgment with a willingness to experiment with AI tools to enhance productivity and discovery.
Eligible employees receive a comprehensive compensation and perks package that supports physical, financial, and professional wellness. Base salaries range nationally between $148,100 and $237,000 annually, depending on work location, skills, experience, and relevant training. Responsibilities
- Manage the long-term product strategy and roadmap for the Savings product alongside leadership and cross-functional partners
- Define and oversee the creation of new features and products aimed at boosting member financial health, retention, and growth
- Utilize experimentation, metrics, data analysis, and user research to guide product choices
- Lead a cross-functional team spanning engineering, design, data, marketing, legal, and customer support to introduce new capabilities
- Foster alignment across departments and leadership through documentation and transparent communication
- Navigate complex regulatory and legal requirements while concentrating on execution and member outcomes
- Proactively identify improvements and integrate AI tools to streamline discovery, decision-making, and user experiences
Requirements
- Minimum of seven years of product management background, including building and scaling products within high-growth environments
- Demonstrated track record of defining product strategy, establishing roadmaps, and releasing products that yield measurable results
- Strong customer orientation and dedication to enhancing financial health
- Robust analytical and problem-solving capabilities, covering experimentation, data analysis, and metrics-driven decisions
- Proven success directing cross-functional product teams and creating alignment with senior leadership and various departments
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to articulate complex product choices clearly
- Experience handling ambiguity, resolving blockers, and executing complex initiatives
Qualifications
- Background in financial services, digital banking, fintech, or other heavily regulated sectors
- Experience introducing products within intricate legal or regulatory structures
- Familiarity utilizing SQL or comparable tools for product analysis and decision-making
- Experience collaborating with multinational or globally distributed teams
