Job Description
OnBoard is seeking a Principal Software Engineer focused on AI to spearhead the creation of next-generation software platforms. Founded as a class project and launched in 2011, the company provides board intelligence and meeting solutions used by more than 5,000 organizations across 60 countries, supporting clients in higher education, healthcare, government, and enterprise sectors. Operating fully remotely within the United States while working Eastern Standard Time hours, this role centers on architecting advanced SaaS products with integrated artificial intelligence, including retrieval-augmented generation frameworks, semantic search systems, vector database setups, and large language model orchestration.
This position is ideal for an experienced technical leader who enjoys breaking down intricate problems, building scalable cloud architectures, and mentoring engineering personnel. The individual selected will collaborate cross-functionally to map business goals into iterative software designs while promoting AI-assisted development practices such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code. Candidates should possess a strong foundation in modern web stacks, microservices, and high-transaction secure environments governed by standards like SOC2 and ISO27001.
Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture and delivery of sophisticated software solutions incorporating semantic search, vector databases, and LLM orchestration patterns.
- Translate business objectives into technical specifications and build scalable designs iteratively alongside cross-functional team members.
- Mentor engineering staff to encourage professional development, knowledge transfer, and continuous learning.
- Author reusable code libraries, perform code reviews, and maintain strict coding standards across the department.
- Promote the use of AI-driven coding assistants like Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and Codex to boost team productivity and output quality.
- Construct developer experience tooling and golden pathways to scale engineering output organization-wide.
- Stay informed on emerging technologies and evaluate their prospective implementation within current software architectures.
Requirements
- Over 10 years of professional SaaS development experience creating user-facing production features on modern web stacks.
- 5 to 7 years of background building web applications utilizing C# and .NET Core.
- At least 5 years of practice applying RESTful design principles and microservices architectures, encompassing high-scale cloud mechanisms like messaging queues and event hubs.
- Minimum 1 year of practical exposure to AI-assisted development tooling such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude.
- Background operating in high-security, high-transaction environments that demand compliance with ISO27001 and SOC2 frameworks.
- Proficiency in git workflows and CI/CD pipelines, preferably utilizing Azure DevOps.
Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in computer science, information technology, software engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more artificial intelligence domains including RAG frameworks, vector databases, prompt engineering, semantic search, or LLM orchestration.
