Job Description
This Principal Software Engineer - Big Data and Java role is a senior, hands-on leadership post. The posting describes it as a principal data engineer who designs, builds and maintains large data platforms and pipelines built on microservices. Whoever fills this seat raises the team's technical bar every day and keeps delivering business and engineering goals when requirements are fuzzy.
The work covers batch and real-time data projects that are already in progress. The principal engineer strengthens and finishes them, coaches colleagues and takes part in every stage of the development life cycle. The posting presents an individual contributor role that still has a broad technical reach and raises what the team can do. The group runs in a Scrum rhythm and prizes teamwork and a readiness to learn.
Typical duties include guiding the design of scalable distributed systems made from Java microservices, and improving data pipelines that rely on Apache Hudi, Apache Trino and Azure ADLS. The position drives the shift to event-driven and cloud-native designs and establishes sound habits for data governance, observability and tuning. The principal engineer builds data quality into pipelines with schema agreements, transformation tests and automated checks, and instruments streaming jobs with metrics, logs, tracing and alerts.
