Job Description

Ellevation Education seeks a remote Product Designer II to help shape a comprehensive English language development platform utilized by nearly 2,000 school districts. The organization is expanding its product design group to transition from separate point solutions into an integrated platform connecting compliance, instruction, and assessment. This position is ideal for a strategic professional who can unify user experiences across multiple workflows instead of building isolated features.

Working within a small, durable, and cross-functional product team alongside engineering and product peers, the selected designer will focus on outcomes rather than output. The role involves engaging users early, validating hypotheses through research and prototyping, and utilizing artificial intelligence tools such as large language models to accelerate ideation and concept stress-testing. Candidates will rely on Backpack, the organization's internal design system, to guarantee consistent and scalable interactions.

New England-area employees, with a preference for candidates in the Boston region, are expected to travel to Boston a minimum of two days a month, totaling ten times a year. The position offers a yearly salary range between $105,000 and $145,000. Equal opportunity employment regulations apply, and artificial intelligence tools may assist recruiters during the evaluation process, though human judgment drives all hiring choices.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional peers in product and engineering without relying on functional silos
  • Partner with teammates to understand user problems deeply and define effective experiences
  • Develop solutions utilizing sketching, wireframing, and code prototyping with large language models
  • Apply the Backpack design system to build consistent interactions across products
  • Conduct field user research and usability testing to bring evidence-based insights to the entire squad
  • Run experiments, adjust strategies based on learnings, and measure success by how products change behavior

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of demonstrated success as a cross-functional designer in a business-to-business SaaS or adjacent environment
  • Fluency in using artificial intelligence tools and large language model-assisted prototyping for ideation and validation
  • Ability to design with accessibility integrated as a first-class constraint from the start of the process
  • Capability to think in systems and create coherent experiences across multiple workflows
  • Experience conducting user research and usability testing directly in the field
  • Skill in articulating tradeoffs clearly and engaging actively in design critique
