Job Description

Canonical is recruiting a Product Marketing Lead for a full-time role open to candidates based in EMEA, where the position is fully remote. Product marketers here turn deeply technical open source products into a clear account of value for users and buyers: the problem solved, the audience that cares, why the company wins, and how the offering should be priced. The company publishes Ubuntu and has operated remotely since 2004.

The lead owns product marketing for one product area, starting from the market thesis and running to the sales assets and campaigns. Responsibilities include positioning and messaging, a consistent storyline from the website to the sales deck, and launches planned by tier and timeline, coordinated across departments and reviewed afterwards. The lead maintains a competitive view covering where deals are lost and why, and builds sales enablement such as battlecards, discovery questions, objection handling and demo narratives.

Customer and community research is central, including structured win-loss work, so that messaging reflects the language buyers actually use. The lead works with demand gen, content, website and event teams so positioning becomes campaigns that generate pipeline, and raises the bar through reviews, coaching and shared frameworks. The role demands an owner's mindset: forming a point of view, backing it with evidence, and changing course when the data says so.

Applicants need strong English communication, an excellent academic and career record, and background in product marketing for business software, SaaS or open-source offerings. They should have owned positioning for a product or portfolio and led launches that moved adoption, pipeline or win rates. Technical curiosity, comfort testing hypotheses with data, the ability to influence without formal authority, and skill running complex cross-functional projects with fixed dates are required. Developer marketing, knowledge of paid open-source business models, working knowledge of product-led and sales-led go-to-market models, and public speaking are useful extras. Pay depends on location, experience and skills.

Responsibilities

  • Own positioning, messaging and narrative for a product area, consistent from website to sales deck
  • Run each launch from start to finish, covering tiers, timelines, cross-team planning, assets and post-launch reporting
  • Keep a current view of rivals for the product area, including who wins deals and why
  • Create sales enablement such as battlecards, discovery questions, objection handling and demo narratives
  • Carry out customer and community interviews, such as win-loss reviews
  • Partner with demand gen, content, website and event to turn positioning into pipeline-generating campaigns
  • Review work and mentor colleagues using shared frameworks

Requirements

  • Clear spoken and written English
  • Background in product marketing for business software, SaaS or open-source offerings
  • History of leading positioning and narrative work for one product or a range
  • Proof of launches that moved adoption, pipeline or conversion figures
  • Technical curiosity to work with product managers and engineers
  • Comfort using data to test hypotheses and change course when needed
  • Skill in bringing product, sales and marketing into agreement
  • Excellent storytelling for developer and executive audiences
  • Capability to run intricate multi-team work against fixed deadlines
  • Proactive, outcome-driven and able to work independently at global scale

Qualifications

  • Exceptional record from school and college
  • Developer marketing, or work in infrastructure, security or IoT (nice to have)
  • Knowledge of open source communities and paid open source business models (nice to have)
  • Working knowledge of product-led and sales-led go-to-market models (nice to have)
  • Presenting at webinars or technical conferences (nice to have)
  • Experience coaching fellow product marketers (nice to have)
