Job Description

Blue Water Thinking, a consulting firm that supports US federal clients and was founded by an Army veteran, is hiring a Deployment Project Manager for healthcare technology management work tied to the Department of Veterans Affairs Federal Electronic Health Record Modernization program, known as FEHRM. The listing is marked remote, and the posting notes travel of about one week every two months.

The project manager runs several deployment projects in parallel at VA medical centers nationwide. The role deals with biomedical engineering and clinical groups at national, regional and individual-site levels, plus technical staff, outside vendors and program offices. Scope covers rollout calendars, site-to-site dependencies, equipment and interface preparedness, trials and go-live steps.

Tracking milestones, risk items, decisions and follow-ups is central, including noticing how unresolved matters affect live work or rollout readiness. The project manager asks focused questions when information is incomplete, writes status reports, executive summaries and briefings, and escalates concerns with a clear statement of impact, the decision needed and next steps.

Qualifying candidates hold a bachelor's degree or the equivalent in schooling and work, with at least five years of relevant experience. Recent hands-on experience in a hospital HTM team, a device or imaging firm, a healthcare IT rollout or a similar field setting is required. The posting asks for practical understanding of medical equipment and day-to-day HTM work, and experience running projects with technical staff, clinicians, vendors and executives. Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship and must be eligible for a federal public trust clearance that they can keep. The posted salary range is $95,000 to $125,000.

Responsibilities

  • Organize HTM rollout calendars, the links between sites, equipment preparedness and go-live steps at several VA locations
  • Track milestones, risks and action items, and judge how open issues affect deployment readiness
  • Work with facility HTM teams, clinicians, Oracle Health and vendors to clarify ownership and status
  • Take part in technical and operational discussions and follow issues through to resolution
  • Escalate problems with impact, the decision required and next steps
  • Write status updates, leadership summaries, briefing papers and meeting records
  • Assist with preparation, trials, rollout and the follow-up after go-live

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combined education and experience, plus at least five years of relevant work
  • Recent hands-on work in a hospital HTM team, a device or imaging firm, a healthcare IT rollout or a similar setting
  • Track record running projects with technical staff, clinicians, vendors and executives
  • Practical understanding of medical equipment and day-to-day HTM work at a facility
  • Can describe what a technical problem means for project timing for engineers and executives alike
  • Strong organization, sound judgment, curiosity and clear written and verbal communication

Qualifications

  • Background in VHA work or in EHR rollouts spanning several facilities
  • Knowledge of the Oracle Health (Cerner) Millennium platform or the VA FEHRM effort
  • Work connecting medical devices to systems, getting equipment ready, testing and go-live
  • Comfort with HTM asset registers or maintenance software
  • Knowledge of applicable healthcare regulatory requirements
  • Use of AI helpers to sharpen documents and work processes
