Baselane is hiring a QA Lead to operate in a player-coach capacity. In this position, roughly half of your time will be spent writing automated tests, fixing flaky scripts, and helping engineers build tests. The remainder of the time will be dedicated to developing the QA team and defining the overall quality strategy.
This role suits an experienced testing professional who enjoys remaining hands-on in the codebase while simultaneously guiding manual testers toward automation. You will collaborate closely with engineering, product, design, and DevOps teams to ensure robust software delivery in compliance-sensitive financial flows.
Responsibilities
- Write, review, and maintain Playwright test suites covering critical user flows, APIs, and regressions
- Coach manual QA staff through pairing, code reviews, and mentorship to help them transition into automation
- Establish and maintain the architecture and patterns of the test framework
- Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines and collaborate with DevOps on environments and data
- Utilize AI coding agents such as Cursor and Claude Code to accelerate test creation, maintenance, and debugging
- Establish acceptance criteria, test plans, and release readiness standards alongside product and engineering teams
- Protect banking, money-movement, and compliance-sensitive application flows against regressions
Requirements
- At least seven years of experience in software quality
- Minimum of two years leading QA teams while maintaining hands-on contributions
- Extensive hands-on experience building and maintaining test automation frameworks using Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or similar tools with TypeScript or JavaScript
- Practical background testing web applications and APIs including GraphQL and REST endpoints
- Demonstrated ability to coach manual testers and integrate test workflows into CI/CD pipelines
- Experience using AI coding agents like Cursor or Claude Code to develop and maintain tests
- Experience testing AI or LLM-powered features, building eval sets, and executing evaluations in CI pipelines
Qualifications
- Prior experience working in FinTech, banking, payments, or integrating with BaaS providers, Stripe, or Plaid
- Familiarity with performance, security, or load testing
- Experience with visual regression, test observability tooling, or contract testing
