AU HVAC seeks a full-time Remote Mechanical Estimator - with Simpro Experience (Dayshift, WFH) to join its team on a remote basis. Working a dayshift schedule from 10 AM to 7 PM AEST, the professional in this role will support a growing portfolio of mechanical, air conditioning, and hydronic heating projects. This position suits a technically focused, detail-oriented professional with a background in mechanical design and estimation tailored to Australian projects.
The person in this role will collaborate directly with the Director on technical issues and work closely with the Office Manager for project administration, client communication, and daily inquiries. Key duties involve preparing accurate take-offs, designs, and estimates, performing thermal load assessments, utilizing H2X and SimPRO software, and ensuring adherence to Australian codes and standards across regions such as New South Wales, the ACT, and Victoria.
Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate estimations, designs, and take-offs for air conditioning, hydronic heating, and HVAC systems
- Conduct pipework design, flow calculations, and thermal load assessments including pump and heat pump sizing and heat loss or gain
- Build and maintain cost libraries, estimating templates, and take-off lists
- Utilize H2X for mechanical calculations and design
- Operate within SimPRO for quoting, job costing, and project workflows
- Draft and review mechanical specifications and project documentation
- Assist with proposals and tenders
- Track and compare estimates against actual project outcomes to enhance future accuracy
- Propose value engineering and alternative materials or designs to optimize cost and performance
- Communicate with suppliers to gather updated pricing and availability
- Ensure all estimates and designs comply with relevant Australian codes and standards particularly for Victoria, the ACT, and New South Wales
- Partner with internal teams to guarantee feasibility, compliance, and best-practice design solutions
Requirements
- Mechanical engineering background or strong hands-on estimating experience in geothermal, heat pump, hydronic heating, or HVAC systems
- Minimum of 2 years of estimating or design experience in mechanical engineering, hydronic systems, or HVAC
- Strong knowledge of air conditioning systems, hydronic heating, and pipework design
- Proficiency with SimPRO and H2X, or a demonstrated ability to learn them quickly
- Prior experience working on Australian mechanical projects
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills for interacting with builders, clients, and internal teams
- High organizational skills and attention to detail to manage multiple deadlines and estimates
- Comfortable working remotely with direct reporting to senior management
Qualifications
- Background in mechanical engineering or a trade qualification in HVAC
- Prior experience specifically working with hydronic systems
- Established supplier and subcontractor networks in Australia
