VetsEZ seeks a remote Ruby API Senior Developer to contribute to a major federal healthcare modernization initiative. This full-time position centers on creating, updating, and supporting Ruby on Rails programs and RESTful API architectures with an emphasis on security, scalability, and clean code maintenance. The person hired will partner closely with software engineers, architects, and stakeholders to deliver new system capabilities and troubleshoot technical challenges. Responsibilities
- Design, build, and upkeep Ruby on Rails systems and RESTful API endpoints
- Construct scalable APIs to facilitate integrations between different services and platforms
- Adhere to architectural best practices while modifying legacy and active applications
- Build and connect user interface features using React and related JavaScript tooling
- Investigate technical roadblocks, isolate core issues, and deploy functional fixes
- Partner with technical leads, developers, and project stakeholders to release software upgrades
Requirements
- At least five years of professional software engineering background with a relevant bachelor's degree, or an equivalent mix of education and practical experience
- Minimum of five years of practical development expertise using Ruby on Rails
- Demonstrated background in building and managing RESTful APIs
- Familiarity with JavaScript, React, and modern web application creation
- United States citizenship
- Must reside within the continental US
- Ability to complete a background check and acquire or sustain a Government or Public Trust clearance when requested
Qualifications
- Background working with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL along with query optimization
- Familiarity with automated testing tools, CI/CD pipelines, and Git version control
- Prior involvement supporting IT systems within healthcare sectors or federal agencies
