Job Description
Civitech is a public benefit company that builds software and infrastructure aimed at widening civic participation and helping progressive candidates and causes succeed. Since 2019, more than 1,400 partners, including nonprofits, party committees and single campaigns, have used its tools to contact tens of millions of voters. The company is remote-first and names integrity, changemaking, collaboration and boldness among its values.
RunningMate, Civitech's newest product, is built to give progressive campaigns an edge in races. The GM runs RunningMate as a separate business unit whose top goal is revenue growth, with authority over its budget, staff and key decisions. The job calls for mapping a complicated market and steering a path through it. The GM serves as the chief outward voice for the product, and the first deliverable is the 2027 strategy and plan.
The unit spans about 10 people across product and engineering, marketing, and client success and partnerships. The GM sets priorities, decides how budget and go-to-market spending are split, chooses target customers and organizations, and is accountable for the unit's profit-and-loss results and overall financial health.
Responsibilities
- Head the RunningMate unit, a cross-functional group of roughly 10 people
- Chart the growth strategy, including how budget is split, go-to-market spend, and which customers and organizations to pursue
- Own the unit's P&L and its overall business results
- Bring product and engineering, marketing, and client success teams onto one shared plan rather than separate agendas
- Set the product roadmap jointly with product and engineering, weighing market needs, customer input and competitor moves
- Represent RunningMate across the political ecosystem and build ties with campaigns, state parties, C3 and C4 groups and other partners
- Produce the annual business plan, starting with 2027, that turns long-term goals into priorities, investments and targets
Requirements
- At least six years working in progressive politics
- Solid grasp of the Democratic campaign world, including how campaigns, state parties, committees, C3 and C4 groups plan budgets, targeting and purchases
- A history of meeting revenue targets for a P&L, client book, business unit or sales channel
- Experience taking a product, business or revenue line from launch stage to over $5M in yearly revenue run-rate
- Entrepreneurial background, comfortable with ambiguity and thin resources while driving real growth
- Skill at forming trusted ties with campaigns, state parties, C3 and C4 organizations and others in the political world
- Experience selling to political clients and grasping their decision-making and purchase timelines
Qualifications
- Background in a startup or fast-expanding organization
Core Skills
Benefits
- Medical, vision and dental coverage
- 401(k) retirement plan plus employee stock options
- Employer-funded life insurance and short- and long-term disability coverage
