The Section Manager for Fire Assay at SGS runs the day-to-day management, planning and operation of the geochem fire assay and sample preparation departments. The role plans budgets, shift structures and rosters to meet capacity targets, manages stock, and drives method development and ISO 17025 accreditation. It also covers daily client communication, production schedules and reports, staff performance and health and safety.
Responsibilities
- Run daily management, planning and operation of fire assay and sample prep
- Plan and control production schedules against lab capability and client needs
- Manage budgets, shift rosters and stock levels
- Communicate with clients on project status, timescales and quotation requests
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years in a commercial laboratory environment
- Experience in client liaison and customer relationship management
- Strong knowledge of SLIM
- Good knowledge of ISO 17025 requirements
Qualifications
- Minimum BSc in chemistry or ND in analytical chemistry
- Mathematics background is an added advantage
