Job Description
Eight Sleep is hiring a part-time Security and IT Intern to support its Security team, which handles security, compliance and IT across the company. Reporting lines run to the Head of Security, who works alongside a Security Engineer. The role runs about 20 hours a week alongside classes, and the intern would take on defined projects, complete them and present results to the engineering group. Eight Sleep describes itself as a sleep fitness company, with hardware, software and AI products used in over 30 countries.
Duties include handling Google Workspace accounts, device administration and the lifecycle of software access, from new hires through departures and periodic access audits. The intern would perform compliance checks on devices and access, script away repetitive steps, help resolve failing Vanta tests, and automate the collection of audit evidence. Each week the intern would also handle a shift of incoming security and IT requests from staff, with a mentor reviewing every reply. Writing runbooks and triage notes that engineers or AI agents can follow is part of the job. The posting encourages AI-first habits, including use of tools such as Claude Code, to multiply the intern's output and move routine tasks into automated production processes.
Candidates should be juniors or seniors studying computer science or a closely related field at an American college or university. Scripting in Python or a similar language is required, ideally with at least one program that calls an API. Applicants should understand identity fundamentals such as single sign-on, multi-factor authentication, directory groups and least privilege, and should have administered or protected something real, such as a student group's workspace tenant, a self-hosted lab, a campus support desk or a capture-the-flag squad's systems. A writing sample on security topics is requested. The intern must hold legal permission to work in the US, as the role does not offer visa sponsorship.
