This position focuses on building, releasing, and maintaining production-grade AI-powered backend systems. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in backend engineering and practical machine learning, with the ability to combine large language models, traditional machine learning models, and vector databases into scalable, reliable architectures. Responsibilities
- Design, build, and launch production-ready AI backend architectures
- Incorporate large language models and traditional machine learning models into performant systems
- Set up and optimize vector databases for retrieval-augmented generation pipelines and queries
- Develop clean, testable Python code following established software design patterns
- Analyze and optimize performance to minimize latency
- Construct hybrid architectures combining large language model calls with traditional machine learning
- Troubleshoot complex issues across backend services, artificial intelligence inference, and user interface layers
- Perform thorough pre-handoff development testing to guarantee reliability in production
- Partner with product, backend, and frontend engineering colleagues
Requirements
- Three to five years or more of professional backend engineering experience using Python, FastAPI or Flask, and background processing
- Demonstrated history of launching Python applications to production environments
- Comprehensive grasp of software design patterns
- Understanding of backend performance, background job parallel processing, and multi-threading
- Performance tuning expertise centered on heavy artificial intelligence models
- Applied machine learning background involving training, evaluation, and maintenance of small task-specific models
- Familiarity with large language model integration, prompt engineering, and context window optimization
- Ability to diagnose artificial intelligence behavior, find root causes, and apply targeted fixes
- Testing discipline covering both backend and artificial intelligence components
- Background processing experience utilizing Celery or similar major libraries
- Experience monitoring application programming interfaces and background tasks while ensuring visibility and error reporting
Qualifications
- Master Degree in a related field
- Experience with Docker
- Knowledge of continuous integration and continuous deployment, deployment automation, and Kubernetes
