Job Description
Clariti is seeking a Senior Applied AI Engineer to join its team on a remote basis. This full-time position carries an annual base salary range of CAD 150,000 to 180,000. In this role, you will act as a forward-deployed AI expert embedded across various product teams, transforming machine learning research into production-ready features spanning large language models, agentic AI workflows, computer vision, and multimodal learning. Clariti provides modern technology to public-sector teams to streamline land use, permitting, and regulatory compliance, and is currently driving an AI-first evolution of its core enterprise offerings.
The ideal candidate is comfortable operating as the primary AI specialist within a cross-functional group, managing projects from initial scoping and proof of concept all the way to production using MLOps tooling. You will collaborate closely with product and engineering managers, design experiments, balance performance trade-offs, and share expertise with the CivCheck AI Research team. Candidates should note that successful applicants must undergo comprehensive background checks focused on global sanctions and relevant criminal offences due to the sensitive nature of customer information. Additionally, the role involves occasional company-wide or departmental travel typically once or twice per year.
Responsibilities
- Own computer vision and agentic AI problem domains by selecting, adapting, and fine-tuning architectures for real-world unstructured data
- Design and execute experiments end to end, evaluating model performance to determine viable paths forward
- Identify high-impact opportunities to improve AI systems and help shape technical direction
- Balance trade-offs regarding model accuracy, interpretability, latency, and cost while communicating decisions to stakeholders
- Share knowledge with research teammates to maintain high standards of experimental rigor
- Keep up-to-date with techniques and tools in computer vision, generative AI, NLP, and multimodal learning for practical application
- Embed with different product teams to identify areas where artificial intelligence can deliver customer value
Requirements
- 7 to 10 years of professional, hands-on experience in applied AI or machine learning with a history of shipping models that solve business problems
- Demonstrated background acting as the lead or sole AI expert on projects from proof of concept to production
- Practical fluency with MLOps infrastructure and practices, including model containerization, CI/CD, deployment, and monitoring
- Ability to work independently within cross-functional teams alongside product and engineering managers
- Production experience building LLM-powered applications and agentic workflows incorporating retrieval, tool use, evaluation, and guardrails
- Extensive experience training and fine-tuning models, curating datasets, tuning parameters, and diagnosing performance
- Significant background in computer vision and image processing such as object detection, segmentation, feature extraction, and geometric transformations
- Proficiency in Python alongside experience with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX
- Hands-on work with cloud-based ML workflows on platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Software engineering capabilities covering Git, testing, API design, and modular code maintenance
- Strong communication skills for writing design proposals, explaining AI concepts, and aligning stakeholders
Qualifications
- Experience in a forward-deployed, solutions engineering, or embedded role introducing AI to previously unequipped teams or products
- Background developing high-accuracy computer vision systems under strict tolerances within fields like medical imaging, autonomous vehicles, or industrial inspection
- Preference or comfort working within an early-stage or startup environment
- Interest in responsible AI development, design, and ethical implications
- Exposure to civic-tech, construction, building, or regulatory and compliance domains
Core Skills
Benefits
- Competitive compensation package
- Paid time off
