Job Description
The Senior Applied Researcher in AI and Machine Learning (US) reports to the Vice President of Advanced Technology and sits on the Advanced Technology and Applied AI Research team. The post is remote and full time. The researcher uses machine learning and AI to tackle healthcare problems, starting from problem framing and data preparation and moving through method selection to the evaluation of the finished model systems.
The work spans classic machine learning and generative AI, including large language model techniques. The researcher designs and assesses solutions that draw on structured or unstructured healthcare records. Outputs can include predictive models, document summaries, recommendation engines, semantic search, information extraction and classification tools. Other work covers data collection and cleaning, prompt tuning, fine-tuning, model training and evaluation, using LLM-as-judge methods, RAGAS and LangSmith, plus custom metrics for fairness and safety.
Collaboration is constant: the researcher works with product leads, clinical informatics specialists, data scientists, UX researchers, engineers and clinicians to turn promising models into large cloud-hosted SaaS systems for healthcare. The role also shares know-how and grows what the organization can do. Hands-on work with healthcare data such as EHR, ADT and clinical notes is needed, along with proficiency in Python and SQL. No salary is stated.
