As part of this mission, the company is seeking a Senior Backend Cloud Engineer to join its distributed team.
This role centers on designing, building, and operating data platforms and public application programming interfaces. The professional will primarily develop services utilizing Rust and Scala, while also supporting a security analysis platform built with Python. Key duties include managing data ingestion and transformation, leading architectural decisions, and spearheading the migration of select services from Scala to Rust. Candidates should thrive in a distributed, asynchronous environment and have a strong foundation in cloud-native systems.
The position offers a base salary between USD 120,000 and 170,000 per year, a 10% bonus target, an equity offering, and comprehensive healthcare benefits where premiums are covered fully for employees and dependents.
Responsibilities
- Lead feature design and delivery across public application programming interfaces and data platforms, handling security data ingestion, enrichment, and transformation
- Partner with product and platform engineering teams to drive architecture, system design, and data flow decisions
- Build, deploy, and manage production Scala backend services to maintain performance, security, and reliability
- Guide the migration of selected application programming interfaces from Scala to Rust
- Maintain high code quality standards by leading design and code reviews, and participate in incident response and on-call duties
- Support and improve the Python-based security analysis platform, covering automated threat detection, machine learning workflows, and malware analysis engines
Requirements
- At least 5 years of backend engineering experience, featuring recent work in a JVM-based codebase
- Proven track record of designing and taking full ownership of distributed systems from inception to completion
- Familiarity with Rust or the ability to determine its appropriate use cases and guide migration efforts
- Strong knowledge of application programming interfaces, messaging systems like Kafka, and modern data stores including Postgres, DynamoDB, and OpenSearch
- Experience building cloud-native services, preferably on Amazon Web Services
- Working knowledge of containers and Kubernetes
Qualifications
- Familiarity with functional programming patterns and idiomatic Scala
- Experience working with lakehouse and analytical data stores such as Databricks and ClickHouse
- Proficiency with Terraform, Helm, and GitHub Actions
- Familiarity with observability tools including Prometheus, Grafana, and CloudWatch
- Prior background working on high-availability systems, data pipelines, or security products
- Python development experience focused on security analysis tools and malware detection frameworks such as YARA, PE analysis, and binary analysis
- Familiarity with machine learning workflows, AutoML, and MLflow for model management and deployment
- Experience integrating binary analysis libraries including LIEF, ssdeep, and TLSH
