BeetsBytes seeks a Senior Backend Engineer to join its fully remote team at a fast-growing startup building an AI-native transportation management system for modern trucking operations. The platform serves carriers, brokers, private fleets, and enterprise teams, handling workflows from dispatch to invoicing. Operating at scale, the product handles over one billion dollars in freight volume annually across more than one thousand companies with frequent product updates and numerous ecosystem integrations.
This role suits an experienced engineer who enjoys high ownership, rapid product iteration, and end-to-end responsibility from initial problem identification to production deployment. Team members operate with significant autonomy, designing scalable systems, writing clean code in Python, and collaborating closely with frontend developers, product staff, and other stakeholders. The position involves shaping engineering practices, reviewing code, and mentoring less experienced colleagues.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs for the platform
- Take ownership of features from system design through deployment and monitoring
- Make architectural decisions balancing development speed and system scalability
- Write clean, testable, and maintainable code supported by proper documentation
- Partner with frontend engineers, product teams, and stakeholders
- Take part in code reviews and provide mentorship to junior engineers
- Contribute to shaping the engineering culture and established best practices
Requirements
- At least three years of backend development experience utilizing Python as the primary language
- Demonstrated experience with web frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, or Flask
- Working knowledge of databases like PostgreSQL and Redis, alongside data modeling skills
- Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs or GraphQL
- Familiarity with cloud platforms including AWS, GCP, or Azure
- Knowledge of system design, performance optimization, and scalability principles
- Familiarity with continuous integration, deployment, testing, and monitoring tools
Qualifications
- Prior experience working with microservices architectures
- Background working in distributed systems or data-intensive applications
- History of contributions to open source projects
- Previous startup work experience
