Job Description

Xsolla is a global video game commerce company headquartered in Los Angeles, California, providing tools and services that help creators fund, distribute, market, and monetize their games. The organization currently seeks a Senior Backend Engineer to join a remote team working on two core platform products: Xsolla ID, which manages identity, authentication, and single sign-on across offerings, and Xsolla ZK, a Web3 wallet infrastructure built on a zkSync-based L2.

This position takes complete ownership of backend services from initial design through production operation and on-call rotations. The engineer will establish service boundaries, ensure the reliability and security of critical user flows, and optimize performance under load. Team members collaborate alongside product managers, designers, frontend and backend peers, QA, and DevOps professionals. Major technical decisions are documented through written proposals, and the development workflow incorporates daily hands-on usage of artificial intelligence coding tools.

The role operates on a remote schedule from 10:00 to 19:00 with flexibility. Candidates are contracted through an employment agreement or an employer of record depending on their geographic location.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain REST and gRPC services and APIs for authentication, account management, and wallet operations
  • Establish integration contracts and service boundaries with other teams
  • Create data models, optimize queries and database schemas, and execute safe migrations
  • Build event-driven and asynchronous workflows utilizing messaging tools
  • Monitor production through metrics, logs, tracing, and alerting, and handle incident responses and post-mortems
  • Participate in on-call duties
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the engineering environment via CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and testing
  • Conduct code reviews
  • Configure and maintain AI coding tools within repositories to support effective team usage

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of commercial backend development experience
  • Professional proficiency in Go, including concurrency, memory management, and performance profiling
  • Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL covering schema design, indexing, and query plans
  • Knowledge of caching strategies and Redis implementation
  • Familiarity with distributed systems trade-offs involving consistency, availability, idempotency, and retries
  • Experience with asynchronous messaging and event-driven design using Kafka, RabbitMQ, or NATS
  • Ability to design version-controlled REST and gRPC APIs with backward compatibility
  • Understanding of application security standards including the OWASP Top 10 and secrets management
  • Experience with server-side OAuth 2.0 and OIDC flows, tokens, and sessions
  • Competence in deploying and debugging services using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with observability platforms such as Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, or OpenTelemetry
  • Practical daily use of AI coding assistants for development and code reviews
  • Reading comprehension of technical documentation in English

Qualifications

  • Background in Web3 backend development, including blockchain integration and account abstraction
  • Experience working on high-load systems
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms like GCP, AWS, or Azure and infrastructure-as-code
  • Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB
  • Domain experience in gaming, e-commerce, fintech, or payments
