GitLab is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer for the Core DevOps: Container Registry team to work remotely from the United Kingdom. In this full-time role, you will design and evolve backend capabilities, tackle complex architectural challenges, and influence product and technical strategies.

Responsibilities
- Design and ship backend features of moderate to high complexity independently
- Make architectural trade-offs between modular monoliths, shared components, and separate services
- Establish and uphold backend standards for testing, APIs, style, maintainability, and operational readiness
- Resolve and prevent reliability and performance issues across large-scale systems
- Take part in incident response protocols and act as a technical owner
- Mentor intermediate and junior engineers while conducting design and code reviews
- Incorporate agentic AI into production engineering workflows to enhance efficiency
- Partner closely with product managers and designers to translate requirements into technical designs
Requirements
- Strong background in backend architecture, data systems, APIs, and performance tuning
- Experience designing or evolving migration-safe architectures and bounded contexts
- Proven proficiency in building or operating agentic systems in production environments
- Strong written communication skills suited for an asynchronous workflow
