The firm is currently hiring a Senior Backend Engineer (Python) with a Full-Stack mindset on a remote, full-time basis to join an AI-first engineering team creating solutions for a major financial group in Japan.
This role centers on building scalable, reliable, and high-performance backend systems, as well as designing end-to-end software solutions utilizing Databricks. While the primary focus is Python backend engineering, the position also provides opportunities to work with frontend technologies such as Vue.js, though advanced frontend expertise is not required. The team utilizes a Claude Code approach, integrating AI-powered development tools, coding assistants, and automation solutions into everyday workflows to enhance code quality and accelerate development. The position is ideal for independent, goal-driven engineers who want to influence technical decisions, explore emerging technologies, and collaborate in an international environment.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and services utilizing Python
- Build end-to-end software solutions and integrations using Databricks
- Design and implement REST APIs while connecting backend systems with external services
- Develop and maintain cloud-based solutions primarily on AWS
- Take full ownership of technical solutions across requirements analysis, architecture design, implementation, and deployment
- Contribute to frontend development and work with modern JavaScript frameworks when necessary
- Utilize AI-powered development tools and AI-assisted coding practices to increase delivery speed and code quality
- Explore and incorporate AI-driven automation into software development processes
- Build prototypes, test technical concepts, and deliver scalable solutions
- Take part in technical planning, solution design, testing, code reviews, and architectural discussions
- Collaborate with international, cross-functional teams to align business requirements with technical solutions
- Identify opportunities for performance optimization, automation, and continuous improvement
- Champion engineering best practices, clean code principles, and maintainability standards
Requirements
- Minimum 6 years of commercial experience in Python backend development with production-grade application expertise
- Senior-level software engineering skills to independently design, develop, and deliver complex technical solutions
- Strong comprehension of backend architecture, distributed systems, REST APIs, and software design principles
- Experience developing cloud-based applications, preferably using AWS
- Solid knowledge of object-oriented programming, clean code principles, and software engineering best practices
- Experience with version control systems, CI/CD processes, and modern development workflows
- Willingness to engage with and contribute to frontend development when needed
- An AI-first mindset with openness to emerging technologies, automation, and AI-assisted development tools
- Strong problem-solving abilities, independence, and a solution-oriented approach
- Capability to own technical decisions while balancing scalability, performance, maintainability, and business needs
- Advanced communication skills in English, both written and spoken
Qualifications
- Familiarity with Databricks platform capabilities
- Practical experience in frontend development with Vue.js, React, Angular, or other modern JavaScript frameworks
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools including Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot
- Background in developing applications for banking, fintech, or financial services
- Experience working with Docker and containerized applications
- Knowledge of Linux operating systems
- Familiarity with event-driven systems and microservices architecture
- Experience with agentic coding workflows, AI agents, or AI-powered development automation
- Experience designing technical solutions from scratch or contributing to architectural decisions
