Backed by four hundred million dollars in funding from global investors, the company employs a distributed workforce spanning multiple continents. Alpaca is currently hiring a Senior Brokerage Operations Associate for Canada as an individual contributor role responsible for designing scalable, automated, and auditable workflows aligned with CIRO requirements.
This position requires an individual who can handle live problems such as account opening and maintenance, trade processing, asset holding, settlement through CDS, corporate actions, and registered accounts including TFSA, RRSP, and RESP. The person in this role will partner closely with engineering, product, compliance, and global operations teams to build straight-through processing systems without relying on manual spreadsheets or large teams. Success in this position is measured through launch readiness, straight-through processing quality, and dependable operational systems that others can run.
Responsibilities
- Manage account lifecycles, onboarding handoffs, KYC and AML operations interfaces, maintenance, and transfers
- Oversee trade lifecycles including capture, affirmation, clearing, settlement, fails, and breaks
- Handle custody and asset servicing duties covering segregation, security movements, corporate actions, and cash
- Maintain books and records, execute reconciliations, manage exceptions, and enforce operational controls
- Administer registered accounts and tax operations including TFSA, RRSP, RESP wrappers, tax lots, withholding, and local reporting
- Run day-two production operations such as runbooks, escalations, vendor and custody interfaces, and disaster recovery playbooks
- Translate Canadian regulatory expectations into standard operating procedures, RACI matrices, and control paths
- Prototype and utilize AI-assisted operations for exception triage, reconciliation investigation, and standard operating procedure Q and A
Requirements
- Ten or more years of hands-on Canadian brokerage operations experience at a CIRO dealer, carrying broker, custodian, clearing firm, or brokerage ops function
- Fluency in market plumbing including clearing, settlement, custody, CDS or CDSX, fails, corporate actions, tax, cash and securities ops, and introducing arrangements
- Demonstrated depth in at least two areas covering clearing and settlement, custody and asset servicing, books and records, or registered accounts and tax
- Regulatory literacy in CIRO, provincial securities, and CSA contexts
- Experience redesigning and shipping process and tooling changes rather than just running business as usual
- Practical knowledge of automation and artificial intelligence tools including workflow automation, rules engines, and robotic process automation
- Exceptional written communication skills to produce standard operating procedures, RACI matrices, decision logs, and technical requirements
Qualifications
- Experience with greenfield Canadian dealer, clearing, or custody stand-up
- Background in API-first, broker-as-a-service, or correspondent platforms
- Familiarity with United States and Canada dual-entity operations
- Extensive experience with CDS, CDSX, or Canadian market infrastructure
- Registered account or Canadian tax operations stand-up experience
- Regular use of artificial intelligence native tools such as Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT, or custom agents for operational workflows
