The organization is currently hiring a Senior Corporate Counsel, Data And Content to join its expanding legal department. This remote position operates within the United States, with a preference for candidates located on the East Coast.
The person in this role will function as a primary legal advisor handling intricate commercial agreements focused on data and content. Responsibilities include drafting, analyzing, and negotiating aggregation, distribution, licensing, and financial data contracts, along with vendor and supplier agreements. The chosen professional will report directly to the Director, Legal – Data & Content and will collaborate closely with internal divisions such as Content, Sales, Marketing, Finance, and Product to support corporate growth objectives and manage legal risks.
This position offers an opportunity to engage with legal issues surrounding artificial intelligence, including data use rights, model training, and output ownership. Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school, active state bar admission, and at least seven years of relevant professional experience. Compensation for this full-time role ranges from $160,000 to $203,000 per year, with potential additions including performance-based bonuses, equity, and benefits.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate financial data agreements, content distribution and aggregation contracts, data licenses, and supplier agreements
- Conduct research and formulate proposals and project plans regarding data and content procurement and distribution
- Advise internal stakeholders on content and data regulations, privacy, commercial disputes, and use restrictions related to artificial intelligence and machine learning
- Collaborate with the Content team on acquisition and distribution strategies and establish related company policies
- Monitor developments in global laws, regulations, and industry standards concerning artificial intelligence and data
- Develop and improve playbooks to establish organizational parameters for scaling the legal function
- Provide strategic legal and business guidance to ensure agreements align with internal policies and standards
- Assist the legal team with corporate matters and general legal duties as required
Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school and active admission in good standing with a state bar
- Minimum of seven years of experience negotiating and drafting content or data procurement and distribution agreements, either in-house or at a recognized law firm
- Understanding of applicable laws regarding intellectual property, financial research and data, compliance, securities, privacy, and financial regulation
- Capacity to negotiate master services agreements, statements of work, service level agreements, data licenses, and non-disclosure agreements
- Business acumen and ability to balance commercial objectives with risk management
Qualifications
- Experience with or demonstrated interest in artificial intelligence legal topics concerning data and content licensing, such as model training, data security, retention, and output ownership
