Job Description
Misfits Market is a high-growth company focused on cutting food waste while making quality groceries cheaper. Its catalog includes organic produce, meat and fish, plant-based protein, dairy, baked goods and wine, priced up to 30 percent below conventional grocery stores. The company's delivery network covers most postal areas across 48 states and it bought the sustainable online grocer Imperfect Foods in 2022. This remote, full-time Senior Counsel post sits on the legal team and reports to the General Counsel.
Routine legal and compliance work is central. The counsel examines, negotiates and writes contracts of many types: commercial deals, agreements with technology firms and outside service providers, data protection terms, licensing and IP agreements, social media and marketing contracts, property leases, freight and transportation arrangements, and supply contracts with food and packaging suppliers.
The counsel also heads negotiation and ongoing oversight of major commercial alliances, designs complex B2B arrangements that weigh legal exposure against business goals, and serves as a resource to cross-team groups on partnership design, compliance and conflict resolution. Working with the product group, the counsel evaluates new launches, interface designs, features and customer disclosures for consumer protection law. The role manages the company's privacy function and advises staff on IP, advertising, food safety and regulatory questions. Corporate governance and strategic deals, such as mergers, acquisitions, equity rounds and debt or equity financings, are also covered.
The posting asks for six to twelve years of relevant practice, ideally a blend of law firm and in-house experience at a quick-moving technology, food or consumer goods business, plus the judgment to weigh legal risk against commercial needs and to explain legal issues clearly to non-lawyers.
