Job Description

This senior counsel position sits in Deliveroo's Legal function and handles competition and litigation work for DoorDash, Wolt and Deliveroo. The specialist team advises all three brands on antitrust issues, competition questions and litigation in every market they serve. The post is in London with hybrid working, requiring a minimum of three days each week at the London headquarters or the Brussels office.

The role is generalist antitrust counsel who must act swiftly. Typical work includes guiding product and commercial teams in real time, supporting mergers, acquisitions and strategic investments with Corporate Development, and managing regulatory probes and inquiries, especially in Europe. It reports to the Director, Competition and Litigation.

Other duties include building an international competition compliance framework across the three brands, covering training, policies and procedures. Litigation support covers collecting and reviewing documents, preparing witnesses and answering third-party subpoenas. The counsel also works with policy and public affairs colleagues to monitor legal developments that could influence the company.

Candidates should be qualified solicitors in England and Wales or hold an equivalent qualification from another European jurisdiction. Seven years or more at a major law firm or inside a corporate legal team, with a grounding in antitrust across M&A advice, litigation and regulatory investigations, is required. Advising on the competition aspects of mergers and investments, including filings and clearance planning, is important. Direct experience engaging with EU, UK or US competition authorities is an advantage. Strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to convert complicated rules into practical product guidance, are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide fast, practical antitrust counsel to product, commercial and deal-making colleagues
  • Handle competition issues in M&A, strategic investments and commercial partnerships
  • Oversee competition investigations and inquiries worldwide
  • Help build the cross-brand competition compliance programme
  • Support litigation activities such as document review, witness preparation and subpoena responses
  • Monitor regulatory and policy changes with public affairs colleagues

Requirements

  • Qualified solicitor in England and Wales, or an equivalent European qualification
  • Seven or more years in a law firm or in-house legal team focused on competition law
  • Track record guiding competition questions in deals and investments
  • Experience handling regulator inquiries or investigations
  • Ability to work across a broad portfolio as a generalist
  • Comfort operating across several countries' legal frameworks
  • Organisational skills for juggling several workstreams at once
