Abstra, a nearshore technology talent provider founded by United States-bred engineers with over fifteen years of industry background, is currently searching for a Senior Data Engineer. This fully remote position is based in the LATAM region with working hours aligned to the US Pacific Time Zone. The person in this role will drive the creation of commercial products, taking complete ownership of projects from initial requirement definition with Product Managers through post-deployment success.
The ideal candidate prioritizes simplicity while offering technical perspectives to optimize system performance, stability, and user experience. Abstra connects top Latin American technology professionals with clients in the United States and other markets to foster innovation and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Manage projects from start to finish alongside Product Managers to establish requirements and execute solutions
- Contribute technical perspectives to boost system performance, stability, and user experience
- Design, construct, and support RESTful APIs while connecting with third-party services
- Take part in code reviews to uphold best practices, maintainability, and ongoing code enhancement
- Develop and sustain unit and integration tests aligned with acceptance criteria for reliable code
Requirements
- Over 5 years of professional background in data engineering, constructing, and sustaining big data pipelines
- Over 3 years of background operating within agile settings such as Scrum with multidisciplinary teams
- Strong proficiency in Spark
- Familiarity with strongly-typed programming languages like Java or Scala
- Competency with version control platforms including Git
Qualifications
- Solid grasp of creating scalable, high-performance back-end systems focused on low latency and high throughput
- Background handling multiple data types including structured and unstructured data, flat files, XML, JSON, relational databases, and parquet formats
- Background utilizing functional programming languages with a preference for Scala
- Background in cyber security
