Later functions as an influencer marketing company providing data and campaign management solutions to brands including Nike, Wayfair, and Unilever. The organization is currently seeking a Senior Data Platform Engineer to work remotely on a full-time basis. This position centers on building and scaling the core data infrastructure rather than focusing on traditional ETL tasks, machine learning models, or routine reporting. The successful candidate will treat the data platform as a product, designing reliable backend services, managing data movement between AWS and GCP, and preparing the ecosystem for AI-driven products. The role suits engineers who enjoy constructing foundational systems, establishing data governance, and creating internal tooling that empowers other teams across the company to build successfully.
Responsibilities
- Design and scale infrastructure spanning data ingestion, storage, orchestration, transformation, and consumption, including the BigQuery warehouse and lakehouse
- Modernize aging parts of the data platform and make architectural decisions with clear explanations of technical tradeoffs
- Develop reliable batch and real-time data pipelines alongside dbt transformation layers
- Evolve orchestration tools using GCP-native solutions and custom orchestrators while shaping the ingestion strategy
- Write backend APIs, services, and integrations to facilitate secure and cost-effective data movement between GCP and AWS
- Manage infrastructure using code and automate deployments via CI/CD pipelines
- Implement observability mechanisms, data quality checks, access controls, and performance optimizations
- Establish data quality, metadata tracking, lineage, governance, and data freshness to support analytics, machine learning, and AI applications
Requirements
- At least six years of professional experience in data, backend, or platform engineering
- Proven track record of managing production data systems at scale while improving reliability, performance, and cost efficiency
- Strong proficiency in backend programming languages such as Python
- Solid command of SQL and experience with transformation frameworks like dbt
- Hands-on cloud experience, specifically with GCP and BigQuery, alongside comfort working across multiple cloud environments
- Practical experience utilizing infrastructure as code, CI/CD, and workflow orchestration tools
- Working knowledge of batch and streaming architectures, data governance, security, and access control
Qualifications
- Familiarity with Kubernetes and the migration or redesign of orchestration systems
- Experience working with managed ingestion tools like Fivetran
- Background in building internal platforms or tooling adopted by other engineers
- Experience establishing data foundations for AI use cases, such as vector stores, feature pipelines, or governed LLM access
Core Skills
Benefits
- Eligibility for permanent team members to participate in various benefits plans included in the overall compensation package
