Job Description
BMC is recruiting a Senior Data Scientist for its AMI team. The position may be performed remotely from within the United States. BMC's IZOT line serves major enterprises that run mainframe computers, with tools for monitoring and managing them, and this role supports that work through predictive analytics.
The focus is on traditional machine learning and predictive analytics. Generative AI and agentic systems belong to the AI Engineering group, and this position collaborates on GenAI features only where modeling expertise adds value. The data scientist would translate business questions into modeling tasks, build and validate predictive models, and work with product and engineering teams to put those models into use.
Responsibilities include building models for classification, regression, ranking, forecasting, anomaly spotting, and clustering; feature engineering and experiment design; defining offline and online metrics and drift monitoring; and supporting deployment with engineering partners. The role also covers communicating findings clearly to both specialists and general stakeholders.
This is also a technical leadership role. The data scientist would lead a data science technical area, set common standards for modeling, metrics, and experiments across squads, and coach other scientists to a consistent quality bar.
Candidates need at least eight years of data science experience and an undergraduate degree in a quantitative subject (statistics, physics, data science, or similar), or equivalent experience. Required skills include Python libraries such as pandas and NumPy, scikit-learn, and a deep learning framework like PyTorch or TensorFlow, statistical analysis and hypothesis testing, SQL, and designing performance metrics for predictive systems. Familiarity with OpenShift and AWS is expected. The estimated base salary range is $152,925 to $254,875 per year, with actual pay depending on many factors.
Responsibilities
- Turn business questions into modeling tasks, then build, validate, and iterate predictive models
- Build features, explore data, and design experiments
- Set evaluation measures for offline tests and live systems, and monitor drift
- Help get models into production alongside engineering partners
- Lead a data science technical area and coach other scientists
Requirements
- Eight-plus years of data science background
- Undergraduate degree in a quantitative subject (statistics, physics, data science, or similar), or equivalent experience
- Strong Python skills, including pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, and a deep learning framework
- Working grasp of inferential statistics, hypothesis tests, experiment design, and data mining techniques
- Background setting measures and evaluation methods for predictive systems
- SQL and modern data platform skills
- Familiarity with OpenShift and AWS
- Track record of influencing multiple teams on standards, metrics, or practices
Qualifications
- Experience with Python backend APIs such as FastAPI or Flask
- Exposure to generative AI or LLMs as a collaborator
- MLOps practice with tools such as MLflow or Kubeflow
- Work on time-series models, causal analysis, or anomaly detection in enterprise system data
- Experience with agile practices and Atlassian tools such as Jira and Confluence
- Master's degree in a related field
Core Skills
Benefits
- Variable compensation plan (may be offered)
- Country-specific benefits
