Job Description
A remote senior data scientist is wanted to take charge of the measurement layer behind a fast-growing online retail platform. The person hired keeps every report, metric and forecast produced by the platform correct, consistent and ready to expand. The aim is a dependable picture of how merchants are doing, which means folding conflicting metric definitions into one governed analytical base.
Day to day, the role sets analytics priorities, quality standards and the long-range plan for the Data Platform. It involves working with the manager who owns platform reports, the Platform Data Quality engineers and product managers across the company. Typical projects include cohort, funnel and growth studies, benchmarking, validation and reconciliation checks, and written documentation for APIs, datasets, metrics and columns, so one definition reads the same from the warehouse to a merchant's dashboard.
Candidates should bring at least five years working in data science or in analytics engineering, two of them in a senior or ownership capacity. The position suits someone who has built or governed shared semantic models and enjoys turning business questions into reusable data structures.
Responsibilities
- Set analytics priorities, standards and the long-range plan for metrics and reporting on the platform
- Merge scattered metric definitions into one governed semantic base
- Design, check and keep refining the reports merchants depend on
- Establish naming and documentation conventions for APIs, datasets, metrics and columns
- Produce cohort, funnel, growth and benchmark analyses for merchants and internal teams
- Set validation rules and governance so figures agree everywhere they appear
- Advise engineering, product and analytics colleagues on building against the platform layer
Requirements
- Five or more years of data science or analytics engineering work, two of them in a senior or ownership capacity
- Track record of building or governing a metrics layer or semantic model that several teams use, with tools such as dbt or LookML
- Proficiency in SQL and Python, and comfort with warehouse data in BigQuery, ClickHouse, Redshift or similar
- Experience shaping analytics products for merchants or customers, such as dashboards, embedded views or analytics endpoints
- A habit of careful naming and documentation, treating definitions as part of the product
- Experience working with product managers to turn business questions into governed data models
- Communication that brings several teams to one shared source of truth
Qualifications
- Background in e-commerce or SaaS, particularly merchant or seller analytics
- Use of metric stores or semantic layers such as Cube, dbt Semantic Layer or Metriql
- Knowledge of API contracts and data catalogs, OpenAPI specifications and column-level lineage
- Statistical modelling or forecasting applied to growth analysis
- Arabic language skills
