Job Description
This full-time Senior Director, Financial Control position leads the worldwide financial control function at Culture Amp. The posting asks people in the role to spend an average of two days a week in a local Culture Amp office and calls it a highly visible post on the Operations Leadership Team.
Its remit takes in reporting, compliance, tax, day-to-day finance operations, and vendor and purchasing work. The holder would define the operating design and roadmap for these areas, direct the automation and AI program for the function, and oversee record-to-report work, statutory filings, tax, payroll and vendor governance. The posting notes that forecasting and planning sit outside this role.
At first, the post-holder runs the Financial Operations group directly, which builds hands-on knowledge for later transformation work. Other duties include guiding the switch of North American payroll to an outsourced provider, from managing the vendor through to a steady handover, representing financial control to executives, the Board and outside auditors, and helping with due diligence and deal readiness for acquisitions.
The company describes itself as an employee experience platform used by 25 million workers at more than 6,000 organisations, with offices in the United States, Britain, Germany and Australia. It has venture capital backing.
Responsibilities
- Establish the direction for worldwide financial control, covering the operating design, roadmap and priorities for every area of the function
- Confirm that the NetSuite system and the company's cloud data warehouse present figures that are reliable and clear
- Drive the automation and AI program for the function, covering data groundwork, shared definitions, documentation and routine operating cadences
- Hold senior accountability for the record-to-report cycle, statutory filings, tax, payroll and vendor controls
- Take charge of escalations, difficult judgement calls and trade-offs spanning teams
- Oversee the switch of North American payroll to an outsourced provider, from vendor oversight to a steady handover, keeping compliance and operational exposure front of mind
- Set and maintain financial policies, procedures and control structures that scale with growth
- Develop finance directors and managers, build a successor bench and nurture a connected team culture
- Support due diligence, deal readiness and control integration after acquisitions
- Promote the company's own platform, automation and AI tools inside Finance
Requirements
- Senior experience running worldwide financial control or a controllership team in a rapidly growing software or technology company, across several legal entities and currencies
- Solid technical accounting and reporting know-how, including consolidation and dealing with external auditors
- Proven change leadership in finance: systems upgrades, process automation and efficiency results, such as ERP changes, close automation or robotic process automation
- Good grasp of the main finance functions and the technology behind them
- Hands-on oversight of tax and payroll compliance across countries, or close work with specialist teams to control risk
- Track record of developing a multi-year direction and operating blueprint for a control function, rather than only running an inherited plan
- Strong people leadership through growth and change, including building effective teams and succession depth
- Due diligence or M&A background, covering data rooms, carve-outs, integration accounting and control integration after deals, or comparable deal-readiness work
- Experience fully owning a finance function, including reporting to the Board and audit committee
- Able to switch between finance specialisms (reporting, tax, payroll, treasury, vendors, purchasing) while keeping speed and sound decisions
- Comfort with autonomy in uncertain situations, and explaining financial and technical ideas to people outside finance
Qualifications
- CA, CPA or a comparable accounting credential
- An undergraduate qualification in accounting, finance or a neighbouring subject
- Substantial post-qualification seniority, ideally at Director or Senior Director grade, in a growing multi-entity software firm
