Tide is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager, Developer Experience or Head of Developer Experience to join its team in Delhi. Reporting directly to the Director of Platform Engineering, this position takes charge of how the engineering organization builds, tests, and deploys software. The ideal candidate will establish the developer experience vision, manage CI/CD pipelines, optimize developer tooling, and prepare the engineering platform for AI-assisted development.
Tide supports over two million members globally across the United Kingdom, India, Germany, and France by offering business accounts and administrative solutions like invoicing and accounting designed specifically for small and medium-sized enterprises. The platform and developer experience tech stack utilizes Terraform, Helm, Crossplane, Kubernetes, GitHub, AWS, GCP, Claude, and Backstage, while product teams develop on Java/Spring Boot and Python.
This role suits an experienced engineering leader with a proven history of guiding platform engineering, DevOps/SRE, or developer experience teams at scale. The successful candidate will combine hands-on technical expertise in modern cloud environments with strong people leadership skills to mentor high-performing teams, track productivity metrics like DORA and SPACE, and collaborate with security and compliance stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Define the developer experience strategy, roadmap, and vision for developer tooling, CI/CD, and the internal platform
- Direct the design, construction, and continuous enhancement of CI/CD pipelines and developer tools to minimize lead time across the software delivery lifecycle
- Monitor, analyze, and report on engineering productivity and DevEx metrics such as DORA and SPACE to prioritize investment and eliminate bottlenecks
- Operate and expand Backstage as the service catalogue and single source of truth for the ICT Asset Register
- Lead the Developer Productivity function in maintaining Java/Spring and Python paved-road templates for product teams
- Supervise internally developed libraries for authentication and shared functionality to ensure broad adoption and documentation
- Build, mentor, and lead a team of developer experience, platform, and developer productivity engineers
- Prepare the engineering platform for AI-driven development by implementing guardrails, tooling, and governance for AI coding agents like Claude Code
- Establish the operating model and infrastructure for running AI-developed applications in production safely
- Collaborate closely with product, platform, security, and compliance leaders to shape the platform roadmap
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience leading Developer Experience, Platform Engineering, or DevOps/SRE teams at scale
- Practical background in building and managing CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling within modern cloud environments
- Prior involvement rolling out and driving adoption of Backstage or a comparable internal developer portal and service catalogue
- Experience running a developer productivity or paved-road function involving shared libraries and project templates in Java/Spring or Python
- Working familiarity with engineering productivity frameworks such as SPACE or DORA metrics
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools like GitHub Copilot or Claude Code along with production governance for AI-authored code
- Demonstrated people leadership capabilities in growing and developing high-performing engineering teams
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills across multiple teams and locations
