The company seeks a Senior Engineering Manager, Platform Engineering to guide its core platform group. In this capacity, the selected professional will treat the internal platform as a product, working closely with stream-aligned product engineering teams who rely on this infrastructure to ship code without dealing with pipeline or tooling friction.
This position requires an individual who combines technical leadership with product management principles. The person in this role will prioritize features through direct discovery, establish service level objectives, and measure success through developer satisfaction and self-service metrics. The core tech stack utilized across engineering includes Go, TypeScript, Python, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Databricks, ElasticSearch, DynamoDB, AWS, Docker, Terraform, and Linux.
Responsibilities
- Lead, recruit, and mentor a team of platform engineers while cultivating empathy for internal developer customers
- Establish and execute the product vision and roadmap for the platform based on direct feedback from stream-aligned teams
- Publish and maintain a team charter outlining service offerings, service level objectives, support structures, and engagement procedures
- Track effectiveness using DORA metrics, developer satisfaction, golden path adoption, and self-service ratios
- Manage the platform with versioning, on-call rotations, and organized platform-wide migrations
- Assess, deploy, and evaluate AI-assisted development tooling across the engineering organization
Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years of software engineering background with practical platform engineering involvement
- Between 3 and 5 years of experience managing engineering teams of at least 4 individuals
- Demonstrated history of managing an internal platform as a product, including defining customer needs and scope boundaries
- Background running high-availability systems on AWS utilizing containers, infrastructure as code with Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and observability tools
- Strong technical judgment with the ability to handle architectural decisions and write code when necessary
- Familiarity with DORA metrics, service level objectives, and developer surveys
- Communication skills necessary to influence cross-team initiatives without formal authority
